Highlander have teamed up with Sheffield City Council and the Lifelong Learning and Skills Team to join up with the Business and Education Alliance project.

Partly funded by the European Social Fund, The Business and Education Alliance is part of See It Be It (SIBI) in Sheffield. The project is specifically aimed at small to medium enterprises and microbusinesses in Sheffield, helping SME’s to engage in careers education in schools with employer encounters that aim to raise aspirations and improve young people’s employability skills. This helps to showcase the IT sector as a career of choice for young people with a view to creating a more diverse workforce across the industry.

In partnership with the See it Be It in Sheffield campaign, Highlander will join a number of other local organisations in linking up with schools and colleges to provide young people with meaningful encounters with employers and real-life experiences of the workplace.

Rich Davies, Business Development Manager at Highlander commented ‘’We’re proud to be working with the Business and Education Alliance project as part of the See it Be it Sheffield campaign. We’re looking forward to engaging with the next generation and inspiring them along their career path whilst helping to introduce them to the world of work’’.

‘’By providing real-life insights into employment we hope to encourage interest in our industry and in that vein help to bridge any skills gap that may exist in IT’’.

SIBI Senior Project Officer Megan Cornick added “The campaign has had a brilliant response from local businesses and we were pleased to bring everyone together for our first network event in September at the Workstation. Highlander have been a great support and have signed up to help with the campaign, introduced us to connections and are working to provide some valuable learning opportunities for young people. We are looking forward to working together moving forwards and connecting young people with the variety of roles available to them in the digital sector.”
